I could remember going over the story line with one of my friends and he kept pushing the issue and importance of having a real badass villain.
We got into some deep conversations about STAR WARS and how DARTH VADER made STAR WARS a big hit.
Then VENOM, the JOKER, Dr. DOOM and of course THANOS.
There is no doubt those villains made a major impact to help guide each characters story line, but I was far from making a big hit. I was in rookie mode just trying to get my story line going.
Taking my friend’s advice into consideration I first started with a few sketches of what I wanted to do. I wanted to paint the DARK PRINCE on the throne plotting and in deep thought.
If you look at my sketches, you will see several other ideas I tried out, but they were just a little too much detail. I was not trying to take away from my main character.
As I was painting these scenes, I was trying to paint my story line and not focus so much on making every painting perfect. That’s why I chose to go abstract, because I could just let my paint brush flow with no worries.
I could remember doing a THANOS painting one time and it took me about a month to get every single detail right. I learned from that process, because the THANOS painting was more of a cover style.
If you look at a comic book you will see that there’s not as much detail in the story line artwork, but just enough to give you what you need to understand the story line.
After creating THE DARK PRINCE and looking at the finish painting I had done, the DARK PRINCE was a villain with few words.
He was plotting on something evil and up to no good.
So now that I have created a RAIDER home and Villain ready to take it over, will there be another force to protect the BLACK HOLE from destruction?
Who will try to stop the DARK PRINCE?
